Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position of director of development and marketing supports the work of the Piedmont Family YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. 
 
The successful candidate will help build an emerging development effort, and will manage a $5 million capital campaign for the Brooks Family YMCA and a $150,000 annual operating campaign for the overall Piedmont Family YMCA association.  He/she will submit grant proposals to public and private sources in order to achieve and further the YMCA’s philanthropic efforts.  He/she will work to build community understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact through the development and implementation of effective marketing and communication strategies.
 
The director of development and marketing works closely with the CEO and Campaign Committee of the Board of Directors to carry out a development plan targeting individuals, corporations, foundations, associations and government agencies in support of these initiatives.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Manage all fundraising and marketing efforts on behalf of the YMCA.
  • Develop, implement and manage the development, marketing and communications strategy for the YMCA in collaboration with the CEO and volunteer leadership.   Monitor the achievement of this plan, taking appropriate action to ensure that the goals and objectives are met.
  • Prepare and manage a campaign and marketing-related budget, including special events.
  • Coordinate campaign volunteers through scheduling, supporting and documenting timely campaign meetings.  Coordinate marketing volunteers through scheduling, supporting and documenting timely marketing meetings.
  • Create campaign print (direct mail), spot (talking points for news media) and web-based (e-newsletter and website) collateral material; coordinate their design, production and distribution.  Develop, produce and distribute program information necessary to promote assigned programs, in accordance with membership and marketing plans.
  • Integrate campaign and marketing milestones into ongoing public relations outreach.  Establish contacts with media representatives and write and submit press releases when appropriate.  Maintains updated files of YMCA’s media relations (both press and electronic).
  • Ensure donor acknowledgement, stewardship and public recognition, as appropriate.
  • Organize cultivation and recognition events.
  •  Develop effective working relationships with service groups, community organizations and companies.  Makes presentations about the YMCA.
  • Establish solicitation priorities, manage prospect list and research, develop and execute targeted cultivation plans for major donors and solicitation strategies for a range of prospects.
  • Prepare and provide support to the CEO, Board members and volunteers for one-to-one solicitations.
  • Oversee the management of all contribution data, including gifts, pledges and endowments; perform regular analysis and reporting of campaign progress.
  • Ensure data related to prospects and donors is recorded and tracked in electronic and hard copy files, manage campaign recordkeeping, evaluate progress toward goals.
  • Prepare monthly reports on fundraising and marketing efforts and results; present to the CEO, Campaign Committee, and Board.
  • Recommend revisions to the development and marketing plan as needed to meet financial goals.
  • Participate in solicitations where appropriate.
  • Establish systems for timely and appropriate acknowledgement of campaign gifts.
  • Oversee prospect/donor correspondence.
  • Organize donor, community and other special events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS/BA or equivalent, with five or more years fund-raising and marketing experience in campaigns and special events.
  • Proven experience in cultivating and soliciting leadership level gifts to campaigns/annual fund.
  • Familiarity with the principles of campaign organization and marketing.
  • Experience in working closely with volunteers and in staffing volunteer committees/events.
  • Excellent writing, organizational and communications skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, volunteers, senior leaders, and the general public.
  • Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA.
